Honor and Pain

AO: The Bridge

When: 06/06/2025

QIC: Busboy

PAX (6): Angus, Boardwalk, Busboy, Chubbs (AKA JT Thoms), Fuzzy Dice, Hackeysack

Preamble:

Today is the 81st anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy.

At the Meathouse/Bridge, we’re blessed to have Fort Pain in our backyard.  Interestingly, one of the influences on the Fort Pain design is the obstacle course at Ft. Benning, the Army Infantry training center that all of today’s front-line Army Infantry personnel have to go through, including Army Rangers.

What an opportunity to honor the service and sacrifice of those on the front lines of Normandy by working through a similar obstacle course that today’s front-line servicemen train for regularly.

Result

  • Solid work! PAX loved the use of Fort Pain.
  • The goal was for 4 rounds (US forces had 2 beaches, 2 landing zones).
  • We could only get through 2 rounds.  We were grateful we could at least honor the 2 beach landings.
  • The vaults were my favorite.

Planned but couldn’t get to it:

In front of the Veteran Memorial

  • 5 Manmakers
  • 10 WWII Sit ups
  • 15 No Surrenders

COT:

  • Brew ruck 6/7 starting at Gate City.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Fort Pain is an incredible resource for our AO.  Great to really leverage that gift to the community, especially to honor the service and sacrifice of those who endured so great of a burden that we benefit from today.

Always a gift to lead these men.  Looking forward to the next one!
