Preamble:

  • Mumblechatter last Thursday about the F3 Challenge coin sent me chasing a white rabbit about Crypto currency & gave me the idea to dub these challenge coins as “AlphaCoins”.
  • And since there’s about 80 still in Pushback’s inventory, I thought I’d raise awareness & hopefully help him move a few.
  • My friend Al helped me with the BD specifics after some prompting (“Create a 45 minute workout in a public park which incorporates one or more physical coins. The workout counts, movements, running laps, etc represent bitcoin-like and cryptocurrency market factors. By the end of the workout, a newbie to cryptocurrency should have learned 2-3 things about the way they work.”)

Warm-O-Rama:

Warm-up – “Network Sync” (5 minutes) Simulate network synchronization with dynamic warm-up exercises:

  • 1 min Jogging in Place – Node connection
  • 1 min SSH – Network activity
  • 1 min Arm Circles + Bodyweight Squats – Node prep
  • 1 min Walking Lunges – Block propagation
  • 1 min High Knees – Transaction broadcast

The Thang:

Round 1: Mining & Proof of Work. Concept: Mining requires energy and has a probabilistic reward.

  • 10 Burpees – Represent mining effort
  • Sprint 50m & back – Racing to find the next lock
  • 15 Mercans – Hashing power
  • Coin Flip:
    • Heads = You mined a block: 20 Air Squats (reward),
    • Tails = No block mined: 10 SSH (energy spent)
  • Finisher: Run 1 lap around the FOD.

Round 2: Market Volatility. Concept: Cryptocurrency prices are highly volatile.

  • Bring 2 coins. Flip both at each station to determine market conditions:
  • HH = High Volatility: Max effort (20 reps or 2 laps)
  • HT/TH = Moderate Volatility: 15 reps or 1 lap
  • TT = Stable Market: Easy pace (10 reps)

Exercises (Coin Flip = Determines intensity for each):

  • Mountain Climbers
  • Jump Squats
  • Running Laps
  • Finisher: 60-second plank (symbolizes HODLing through the chaos)

Round 3: Gas Fees & Transactions. Concept: Each action consumes energy (“gas”) based on congestion.

  • Start with 20 “Gas Points” in your wallet.
  • Exercise Costs:
    • Sprint 100m = 7 gas
    • Jumping Lunges x15 = 6 gas
    • Sit-ups x20 = 5 gas
    • Walk 1 Lap = 2 gas
  • Coin Flip Each Round:
    • Heads = Network Congestion → add +2 gas to each action
    • Tails = Low Congestion → subtract -1 gas from each action

Goal: Complete exercises without exceeding 20-point budget. Adjust plan accordingly (like a smart contract optimizing for gas).

  • Crypto Concepts Summary
    • Proof of Work: Mining requires energy and time to earn rewards.
    • Volatility: Crypto prices are unstable; market mood changes fast.
    • Gas Fees: Every blockchain transaction costs something—efficiency matters.
