Preamble:
I totally knew I had the Q today, but thanks for the reminder 🙂 Been playing with a couple ideas now for a while, and since the new boss at Windjammer is away, I figured I could get off a little easier if one of them didn’t work so well. So Play Day here we come!
Warm-O-Rama:
Mosey to the dam for the standard stuff:
- SSH
- Imperial Walker
- Weedpicker
- MMP (Townie’s favorite)
- Arm Circles
Mosey to the boat launch for child game number 1.
The Thang:
We’re doing a bunch of kids games to goof off on a Friday. Game number 1 is Duck-Duck-Burpee. Here’s how it goes:
Standard childhood game of Duck-Duck-Goose, but with running place with high knees while one PAX goes around calling ‘Duck.’ On the PAX that call Burpee, that one has to do two burpees while the tagging PAX switches to duck-walk around the circle back to the original place. If he gets caught by the other PAX running, then we all do 20 reps of something. If not, then we do 10 reps. I don’t fully remember which exercises we did, but it we something like merkins, LBCs, Squats, etc. All I know is that most laughed, the gloom booms came out (thanks Milli!), and Stu cheated. We had fun.
Now let’s mosey to the sports park for game two: Rock-Paper-Scissors. We broke into two groups by the Q just splitting the group in half rather than doing a complicated count off by 2 suggestion from Cookie. I learned today that some PAX can’t count or time out a 1-2-3-shoot vs. 1-2-3 approach, but we made it through. The best of 3 winning team ran to somewhere off into the distance and the other team did an exercise the winning team chose. One team was bad at RPS, the other was good….we’ll leave it at that.
Now, let’s mosey up the dam hill, back to the main parking lot for the last game: Hungry Hungry Hippos! We counted off by 4 this time…this made Cookie happy…and each group went into the corner of the parking lot. I place a bucket of balls in the middle of the parking lot and each team had 1 member sprint to the middle to get a ball after completing 5 burpees. The winning team (probably) cheated and grabbed more than 1 ball a couple times, but it was relatively even. Again, winning team call and exercise and ran a short lap while the other 3 did the exercise. We had time for 1 more round and did 5 squats this time. 2 teams tied for the win and 2 teams tied for the loss.
1 minute left, so we did some LBCs and flutter kicks to close it out.
Play day is over.
COT:
- Halpha Day on 5/2
- Convergence on 5/3
- Shirt orders due on Saturday
- Prayers for Readymix’s family on the anniversary of his passing
- Safe travel for all those on spring break next week
- Great TNT from Stu on listening to aging parents’ needs
Naked-Man Moleskin:
This was a fun one to plan even though I did it last minute. Got to experiment with some ideas, and while they didn’t go exactly as I thought, we made adjustments on the fly and had fun doing it. Good way to kick off spring break and enjoy some camaraderie with the guys.
Until next time!
