PAX (6): Caffey, Dosido, MillerTime, No-See-Um, Special K, Thud
It’s cold and windy but 6 men are kicking the year off right at Nirvana. YHC had a tabata timer and coupon heavy BD ready, along with a pretty decent playlist.
There was a stack of coupons waiting for us in the gloom and a steady 7 MPH wind that made it feel a lot colder than 35 degrees. No time to mess around and no weak sh*t. Mosey, side straddle hops, mountain climbers and a nice little mix of stretches for arms, backs and shoulders.
PAX moved cinder coupons and a pair of 40 lb sandbags down to the middle school track. We got started with rounds of Tabata timer exercises. PAX were SUPER IMPRESSED by Thud’s whiteboard and neat handwriting (not really).
Deadlifts followed by Plank Jacks
Curls followed by Shoulder Taps
Cinder swings followed by Mtn Climbers
Overhead press followed by LBC’s
Skull Crushers followed by Squats
Grave Diggers followed by Plank Jacks
Ran a lap on the track and then split into two groups to lift sandbags.
Lose the sandbags, circled back up to run through the cinder coupon exercises again.
Ran a lap on the track.
We finished the last 20 minutes with Foxholes, Grip Rip Roll (GRR) and Blockees.
What is a Foxhole you say? It’s Thud’s favorite so you need to know this: its a WWI, roll to the side into a Merken. Repeato.
According to Miller Time it was a very Atlas-inspired BD at Nirvana today. Aye, it certainly was. Nirvana work ethic was strong, mumble-chatter was entertaining, there’s no better way to start a Saturday morning.
PAX circled up to share prayer requests and announcements. We’re all especially thinking and praying for our kids as they grow and for wisdom to guide, discipline and love them.
Over the past few months I have been recruiting and hiring people to join my team at work. So a question has been rolling around my head: what really sets a person apart? We have all seen people with excellent education, work history and phenomenal professional network that turn out to be mediocre or worse.
What is the thing inside a man that makes him exceptionally likely to excel? Come on! We all know that the thing is character.
What does character look like? How do you build character? Those are heavy questions that YHC will not delve into here. But I know that you build character and fortify character a little bit at a time. It is a discipline. 6 men showed some discipline this morning, coming out into the gloom to do good work.
