When: 07/31/2018

QIC: Whiz

PAX (): Whiz, Dumpster, Olaf, The Body, Clyde, Bagger, McDuff, Bartman, Swiper, Snake

Apologies for the late BB and YHC really has no excuse.  The weather has me stranded in Baltimore so a great time to catch-up!  Another 10 PAX crowded the Big Creek parking lot to do hard things and push ourselves a little further than we knew we could go.

We moseyed around the walking circle and through the roman columns taking the back way to the playground parking lot doing some variations of high knees and butt kickers along the way.

  • SSH x 20 IC
  • Hillbillies x 15 IC
  • Cotton Mill x 15 IC

  • Unlike some other AO’s, YHC decided to run the preseason IronPAX challenge at the beginning of the beatdown to let the PAX see how hard they could push on the challenge starting fresh.  After announcing that we’d be bear crawling for 200 yards on the pavement and seeing the looks on the faces of the men who didn’t wear gloves, I was second guessing the decision.  Hint:  ALWAYS wear gloves when YHC is QIC.  We didn’t get too formal on timing or yardage markers this time since it was a warm-up and we were just getting a taste of what’s to come.  Everyone did fairly well on this, aside from Body who must’ve been a quadruped in a former life because he’s unnaturally fast at bear crawling.  Should be interesting to see who’s better at what exercises throughout the challenge.

With that order of business out of the way we moseyed down to the basketball courts for a pyramid by the benches.  Interestingly, there’s no official pyramid routine in the exicon and I’ve seen it done a few different ways in other BB’s.  Here’s how I decided to execute:

Start at the benches in the middle of the courts to perform each round of exercises and then take a lap in between.

  • Rd. 1 – 5 burpees
  • Rd. 2 – 5 burpees, 10 derkins
  • Rd. 3 – 5 burpees, 10 derkins, 15 dips
  • Rd. 4 – 5 burpees, 10 derkins, 15 dips, 20 step-ups (both legs count as one)
  • Rd. 5 – 5 burpees, 10 derkins, 15 dips
  • Rd. 6 – 5 burpees, 10 derkins
  • Rd. 7 – 5 burpees and one last lap for good measure

We had a few minutes left and were still on the courts so suicides seemed like the appropriate thing to do….duck walk suicides that is.  This went fairly quick but was a success based on the mumble chatter and groaning heard throughout.

Last we moseyed uphill back to the flag actually getting back a minute late.  That’s a fail on my part and something I’ll be sure to avoid in the future.

Olaf was our sixth man, who shared his native Coal Mountain roots and also his struggles with alcohol and substance abuse in his younger years.  He’s been clean and sober for several years and is living third as a true HIM.  Proud to share the gloom with him and the other HIM who call Big Creek home.  So rewarding to be part of the growth at this AO and can’t wait for our new regulars to start leading us.
